2021 Domaine Janasse Chateauneuf Du
Pape France $75
Tasty and ripe, with an open profile
marked by sappy red cherry, anise, and
generous floral perfume. Meaty and
fleshy on the vanilla-kissed palate,
with crushed iron bringing balance,
while dried rosemary, charred mesquite
and herbal lift emerge. There is much
to like about this alluring red, which
is drinking beautifully now (and will
age well, too). Grenache, Syrah,
Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Drink now

2021 Domaine de la Solitude
Châteauneuf-du-Pape $50
A suave, lush version, featuring a
bright beam of cassis and boysenberry
flavors. There's good energy and
acidity, with cashmere-fine tannins
edged in graphite. A warm robe of
gently toasty apple wood draws out the
attractive, medium-length finish.
Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault
and Counoise. Drink now through 2032.

2021 Clos des Brusquières
Châteauneuf-du-Pape $50
Tasting Notes "This is tight and
grippy but has a live wire of racy
iron-edged minerality spreading out
from the core, providing a matrix for
the myriad of plum reduction, cherry
paste, red licorice, sweet bay,
lavender, cassis bush and juniper
notes to build off of. A wild brambly
feel drives the finish. Distinctive
and will provide intrigue as it ages."
The Wine: 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah 5%
Mourvdre, 5% Cinsaul. At only eight
hectares in size, this miniscule,
ultra-traditional estate produces tiny
quantities of just one wine: no luxury
curve, no specialty blend, just a
stunningly pure and complex
Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Owner Claude
Courtil is the godson of none other
than Henri Bonneau, one of the most
legendary and revered producers in the
region, and he learned everything he
knows about winemaking from his
godfather. Henri and Claude share a
deeply held commitment to natural
winemaking: manual vineyard work,
traditional aging in large foudres,
and bottling without intrusive fining
and filtration. A reserved,
introspective man, Courtil sold his
entire production to negociants until
the 1996 vintage, and he has been
producing steadily more impressive and
complete wine ever since -- though the
'96 is an extremely gorgeous
Chateauneuf in its own right! This is
truly a special domaine, and one that
is extremely deserving of your
attention.
2021 Chateau De Saint Cosme Gigondas
$50
Saint Cosme - located north of the
village of Gigondas - is the most
ancient estate in the region. Lying on
the site of a Gallo-Roman villa which
very probably already had its own
vineyard, the existence of the estate
in 1416 planting of vines on the Saint
Cosme slopes." The Barruol's ancestors
acquired it in 1570, and at the end of
the sixteenth century built a splendid
residence over existing cellars.
TASTINGNOTES The wine shows intense
blackberry and fig fruit with
licorice, violets, and charcoal on the
finish. It is remarkably fresh and
finessed given the sun and warmth of
the southern Rhône. The unique
micro-climate combined with
60-year-old vines and traditional
winemaking make Château de Saint Cosme
Gigondas the benchmark wine of the
appellation. Food pairing:
Grenache is the pale-colored,
red-fruited, and potpourri-scented red
grape variety of the southern Rhône a
Full-bodied Grenache-based wines are
ideal with stews, braises, and grilled
meats.

- 2020 Juan Gil Red Blend Jumilla,
Spain $19. These zesty red layers are
abundant milled black and white pepper
with flavors of ripe black raspberry
and cherry fruit. Firmed by
well-meshed, chalky tannins, this
offers aromatic accents of bay leaf
and licorice. Monastrell, Cabernet
Sauvignon and Syrah. Drink now through

- 2023 Hahn GSM California $14 This
2022 GSM is a medium-bodied blend of
Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Aromas
of violet, blueberry and a tap of
white pepper rise from the glass. The
mouthfeel is soft with layers of ripe
raspberry and strawberries. Subtle
hints of toasted oak and mocha pull
through the finish.

Garnacha & Carinena, Spain $12
“This is inky with dark berries and
graphite to the black-cherry aromas
and flavors. Medium-bodied with firm
tannins and long, textural finish that
goes on for minutes. Delicious now."

- 2022 Cantina Valle Tritana
Montepulciano D’Abruzzo, Italy $14.
Intense, clean, and pleasing aromas of
black cherry, blueberry, plum, carob
and violet followed by pleasing aromas
of walnut-husk. Good balance,
agreeable tannins, good body, and
intense flavors. Deep ruby red color,
little transparency. Pairs well with
mushrooms, Cheese, and pasta dishes.

Blend Central Coast, CA $17
“Troublemaker Blend 16 has an opaque
purple color. The nose is bursting
with jammy boysenberry and blackberry,
along with a fresh hint of raspberry.
These fruit aromas carry through to
the palate and are accentuated by
underlying tones of peppercorns, dried
tobacco, and roasted coffee. Velvety
tannins and balancing acidity bring
out the vibrant fruit character of
this complex blend. “Comprised of
varietals that flourish in Paso
Robles’ distinct growing region,
Troublemaker consists of Syrah, Petite
Sirah, Mourvèdre, Grenache, and
Zinfandel. Syrah is the backbone of
the wine, setting the stage for a
fruit-forward style and a full body.
Petite Sirah contributes to the deep
ruby color. Sweet and bright red fruit
flavors of Grenache blend with the
rustic and lively flavors of the
Mourvèdre, while Zinfandel adds its
signature zing to round out the

Sangiovese. Bouquet: the wine presents
typical perfumes of Prugnolo Gentile,
liquorice, red fruits and violet. The
maturing produces also prominent
balsamic inklings, typical of quality
red wine. Flavor: Soft and
Velvety. The evolution reveals a
moderate wood inkling and freshness,
typical of young wine. We look for
fineness and elegance, rather than
excessive extraction and structure.

Calchaqui Valley, Argentina $14 This
version is subtly floral, with hints
of geranium and dried rose hip on a
smooth-textured palate of mandarin
orange and dried pineapple, with just
enough acidity to pick up the flavors
and carry them onto the finish around
a lingering note of candied lemon
peel. Drink now. 90 Points Wine

- 2022 Umani Ronchi Verdicchio dei
Castelli di Jesi Classico Villa
Bianchi, Italy $12 Verbena and fresh
hay notes accent the ripe yellow plum
and crushed almond flavors in this
balanced, light-bodied white, with
hints of white pepper and graphite.

- 2023 Raza Vinho Verde D.O.C.
Portugal $12 A cheerful, translucid,
lemon-yellow, and slightly pétillant
white wine, Vinho Verde means ‘green
wine’ and named after the northwest
Portuguese region from which it
originates. The ‘green’ in the name
refers to the youthful state in which
the wines are customarily released and
consumed, not the color of the wine.
It is typically a blend of various
percentages of Alvarinho, Loureiro,
Trajadura, and Pedernã (Arinto).
Following initial alcoholic
fermentation, a natural, secondary
malolactic conversion in cask produces
carbon dioxide, giving Vinho Verde its
charmingly light sparkle. 11.5 % Alc.
- 2021 McBride Sisters Chardonnay
Central Coast, CA $15 Creamy and lush,
with flavors of lemon meringue, lemon
curd and crème anglaise that show
accents of marmalade and apricot
pastry, plus fresh grace notes of
tangerine, candied ginger and toasted,
buttery brioche. A fresh thread of
acidity keeps all the flavors in
focus. Drink now. 90 Points Wine

- 2023 Lamblin & Fils Bourgogne
Blanc, France $20 When you taste it,
you could easily take Lamblin’s
Bourgogne Blanc for Chablis. In price,
however, it bears no resemblance at
all. A can’t-miss member-favorite
offering mouthwatering lemon curd and
juicy pear accented by wet stone, it’s
an outstanding bargain. 12.5 Alc.
- 2023 Hiruzta Txakolina Spain $20.
Made from the Hondarrabi Zuri grape,
grown in the winery’s own vineyards in
Hondarribia and fermented at its
state-of-the-art facility. Produced in
at an exceptional winery equipped with
state-of-the-art technology. Intense
aromas of white (pear and apple),
citrus (grapefruit) and tropical
(pineapple and passion fruit) fruit
aromas, also swathed with white flower
(orange blossom) scents, all enhanced
by the subtle release of the natural
carbonic gas. It is very balanced and
fresh, with a certain sense of spicy
sparkle on the tongue and an
integrated acidity. Pleasant on the
palate, with a citrus and tropical
aftertaste. Long and aromatic finish.
